Mission or Goal of Unit
The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship provides instruction at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels and offers baccalaureate majors in Management with concentrations in Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, International Management, and Business Administration. At the graduate level the department supports the MBA program, and offers a Ph.D. in Business with a concentration in Management (OBHR). The department prepares students for successful careers and lifelong learning by providing management education firmly grounded in technology, interdisciplinary teamwork, and global perspective. Essential to achieving this mission is striving to excel in teaching and scholarly research, and to build effective, value-based relationships with the external community. Virginia Commonwealth University enrolls over 31,000 students, with 3,300 enrolled in the School of Business.
Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal
Management and Entrepreneurship faculty teach in the undergraduate, MBA, Executive MBA, and Ph.D. programs. The Department has 16 full-time faculty who are active researchers and engaged teachers. Management faculty have publications in leading journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management, Strategic Management Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, and Organizational Research Methods. Applicants should have teaching interests in the areas of general management, organizational behavior, strategy, entrepreneurship, leadership, human resource management, or related areas.
Position Responsibilities
The selected candidate will teach courses in the area of Human Resources Management, which may include Introduction to HRM, Compensation, Organizational Development, and related courses. Secondary teaching interests in areas including leadership and negotiations may also be desirable. In addition to teaching, this individual will advise the student SHRM chapter and work to develop its prominence on campus and in the region, and will work to help connect our students with the local HR business community and enhance the visibility and reputation of the School of Business Human Resource Management program. Applicants should have a business/professional background with work at a high level of professional responsibility in human resource management or related areas. Successful candidates will be expected to continue to be engaged with their profession at a level sufficient to maintain qualifications as a scholarly practitioner or instructional practitioner per the School of
Business AACSB faculty qualification standards.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have a master's degree in a relevant discipline; a PhD is preferred. Candidates must have professional business experience at a high level of responsibility in areas related to the area of teaching. Candidates must have a demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. Prior teaching experience is preferred.
