Join the premier Snow School in the east! The Mountain Sports School at Stratton is looking to add qualified, certified and non-certified instructors and examiners responsible for introducing and elevating the on-snow experiences for our guests.
Don't let the title of this position scare you away...we receive tons of questions every year from skiers on how they can become an instructor. We have full time, part time, and holiday/temporary positions available for ski instructors.
* Uncertified Instructors start at $12.50/hour base rate, plus incentives * Level I Certified Instructors start at $16.00/hour base rate, plus incentives * Level II Certified Instructors start at $20.00/hour base rate, plus incentives * Level III Certified Instructors start at $22.50/hour base rate, plus incentives * Examiners start at $25/hour, plus incentives
Regardless of your experience or certifications we will give you the tools you need to develop your technical and teaching skills as a skier on the mountain. We will also develop your people skills in delivering a safe and fun lesson.
Full and part-time winter seasonal positions are available, running from November through mid-April. Essential Functions of an Instructor:
* Uphold the highest levels of guest safety on varied terrain with constantly changing winter weather conditions * Clearly and accurately instruct assigned levels of skiing to students, both physically and verbally. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. * Ensure that students are matched to appropriate skier skill level and work with supervisors/managers to make appropriate changes when necessary * Assist guests with transportation of equipment * Assist guests to load and unload the chairlift * Supervise children in class at all times; assist at lunch and snack times; ensure return of children to identified guardian * Assist in operational responsibilities of Snow Sports programs including but not limited to registration process, direct guests to appropriate equipment-fitting source, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities
Required Experience, Skills & Abilities:
* Must be comfortable navigating blue (intermediate) terrain, on skis, at the resort * Must have basic knowledge of internet navigation, spreadsheets and browser applications * Experience working with guests of all ages is preferred * Must be fluent in all aspects of the English language (spoken and written) * Must have excellent guest service skills * Must have excellent communication skills * Must work well in a team environment * Must have sight, speech, and hearing abilities sufficient to learn skills, follow and provide directions. * Previous experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring children is preferred * While not required, PSIA/AASI certification is preferred
All Instructor applicants must provide two (2) letters of reference (from non-relatives), attached to this application, in order to be considered for a position. Letters of reference should pertain to the applicant's previous experience with teaching, coaching, mentoring or working with children, whenever possible. Stratton Mountain Resort will also conduct a criminal background check for all candidates who have been offered a position in our Mountain Sports School.
